Hello Jhoanna, Thank you for sharing your notion regarding high-resolution computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the lung of children with cystic fibrosis (CF). Most body systems are affected by CF, however, lung disease causes the majority of morbidity and mortality in patients with CF (Puderbach et al., 2007). Other organs affected are the pancreas, kidneys, and liver. The most frequent abdominal organ affected in CF is the pancreas (Gillespie, O’ Reilly, Allen, McDermott, Chan, & Ridge, 2017). Patients with CF would manifest with pancreatic insufficiency, pancreatitis, and a higher chance of developing pancreatic cancer (Gillespie et al., 2017). Renal complications are rare but if they do occur, nephrolithiasis is the most common (Gillespie et al., 2017). Moreover, the extrapulmonary cause of death in CF is liver cirrhosis (Gillespie et al., 2017). What physical therapy treatment do you implement in patients with CF? …show more content…

Signs and Symptoms that a patient has CF happen at a young age of 1-2 years old, is when most patients are diagnosed. They are seen to have trouble breathing, coughing, and salty sweat. Later on in life they will have symptoms like lung infections, coughing, wheezing, trouble digesting food, and fatty feces. Direct results of CF is the nonfunctional chloride channels, which causes the thickening of mucus in the lungs and the blocking of the pancreatic ducts. Indirect results of CF are respiratory infection, due to the thick mucus that pools in the lungs that can collect bacteria.…

Cystic Fibrosis According to WebMD “More than 30,000 people in the U.S live with cystic fibrosis (CF) and doctors diagnose about 1,000 new cases each year.” CF affects some cells in your body that can make mucus and digestive fluids in your body. These fluids are normally thin and slippery, but CF can make them thick and sticky causing it to block the tubes and ducts throughout the body. After some time mucus builds up and makes breathing harder and since the mucus traps germs, it can lead to infection, it can also cause lung damage such as cysts and fibrosis.…

Cystic Fibrosis are known to be a recessive disorder, meaning that both parents must a carrier of the gene in order to pass on the defective gene to any of their children in order to get the disease. If the faulty gene is inherited by one of the children, he or she will also be a carrier of the gene. Being a carrier of the disease will not affect the carrier, but the gene can be passed down to their children. This essay will address the biological basis and symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis, the treatments and/or management of this disease, and the issues, controversies regarding genetic screening. Through the 1930s children born with cystic fibrosis had a median survival age of around 6 months old (Collins, 1992). Autopsies of children in 1938 finally allowed for the distinction between celiac disease and cystic fibrosis, which led to improved treatment (Collins, 1992). By the 1950s care centers for patients with cystic fibrosis were establishing treatment priorities, and these priorities, in turn, improved life expectancy (Collins, 1992). These centers established the need for attention to nutrition, airway clearance, and treatment of lung infections, which they called the three pillars of cystic fibrosis treatment (Collins, 1992). These pillars are still referred to for CF maintenance.…

The Effects of Cystic Fibrosis on Cell Signaling Cystic Fibrosis is a recessive genetic condition that causes the mutation of the CFTR gene, which contains instructions for making CFTR proteins. CFTR proteins regulate the transport of chloride in and out of cells; if the proteins don’t work properly, the cells are left with a high salt concentration and take up liquid from mucus in attempts to reach equilibrium. The disease most commonly affects the respiratory and digestive systems. In normal bodies, mucus is used in many organ systems to protect against harmful bacteria. However, in a body with C.F., the mucus is too thick to properly function and causes build-up.…

It affects many aspects of daily life, and you cannot control any of the symptoms. Because it is a genetic mutation, it is very difficult to understand being there is so much we still don 't know about genes. This means people with CF, sadly, cannot be cured. However there are many things people with CF can do to stay on top of their problem, and manage many of the symptoms. There are many antibiotics that can help reduce these symptoms such as Piperacillin, which is a drug used to help treat infections, which can help clear mucus from your lungs.…
