Panama City Flare Sighting Case Study

Improved Essays
I recently responded to a flare sighting south of Panama City, FL. The SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) received three separate reports from sources they deemed reliable. Each of the three reports was extremely similar and able to be correlated with the others. The flares were described as red and above the horizon with an upward trajectory. The flare cones from each source overlapped and provided a searchable overwater area for responding units. The local military units were questioned regarding flare operations in the region and none were reported. As our crew completed the preflight duties and brief, we all agreed that this case appeared ‘legit.’ You may be thinking about how rarely you have this feeling of legitimacy about a flare sighting, especially for a case in the Panama City region. That very thought passed through my mind when I heard the location of this case. Specifically, I thought we were about to go on yet another extended, reverse cycle mission in search of a vessel or person in distress that may not exist. Before we rotated I was already discounting the credibility of the reports based on the numerous similar cases we have all flown on with negative results. …show more content…
As expected we found only a few vessels in the search area, all of which were underway and showing no signs of distress. After an hour on scene, we reported to SMC that we were 75% complete with our assigned pattern and requested further tasking. While waiting for the response, the Copilot called out, “Flare!” Levels of alertness quickly doubled as we asked him for a direction. “It was straight ahead. Above the horizon.” Then the right observer said, “I just saw one at one O’Clock.” We turned in the direction of the last

It was 4:22 a.m June 6, 1944, everyone in the camp was woken up by sirens. We were 20 miles out from Normandy beach. Sargent had not told us what was going on yet, we were just told to suit up and get to the boats. I heard a quiet buzz around the compound from various soldiers of various ranks that we were going to Normandy Germany and I knew this meant war. We loaded up the boats with around 16 per boat.…

The flight to Panama was long and bumping as I flew aboard a C-141, this aircraft is no longer in service. As I departed the aircraft, I was met by oppressive heat and humidity. As I looked around my new surroundings, I could not help but think that it looked as if someone had laid a giant green carpet over the landscape. It was definitely the most beautiful country that I had seen and, in my opinion it still is. The tarmac was busy with all kinds of activity going on.…

What goes on in Area 51 has long been a mystery. People have always been curious as to what goes on beyond the high levels of security and in the depths of the actual buildings. Although Area 51 keeps everything they do a secret, they do, in fact, have extraterrestrial findings that they keep in possession without the world’s knowledge. There are two locations of Area 51; the first one is located in the Nevada desert within reach of Groom Lake, which is a lake that overtime has dried out. It is not officially confirmed that this site exists, because although you can see it from satellites such as Google Maps, you cannot find it on any government maps.…

For me this is very intriguing because I am a veteran myself and I know how strong the integrity of those officers must be. I know they would not lie about their experiences because they would have nothing to gain, especially in the military since the subject is taboo. This brings me to my next notion, throughout the military there is a “need to know” aspect of ufology that states unless there’s a need to know, the military and government will not disclose any information. The military eyewitnesses in this movie explain very well how after their experiences with seeing UFO’s they tried to report the experience to their chain of command and the evidence was either taken or explained away as “flares” or a” lighthouse light.” This idea is simply ridiculous because this is the military and they know the difference between a UFO and a lighthouse (see figure 1).…

The Bermuda Triangle: Pseudoscience? Coined by philosopher, Karl Popper, ‘Pseudoscience’ is a term that is prevelant and used to describe theories or even fields of study that appear scientific but are not authentically so. Much like scientific claims or theories, pseudoscientific ideas also stem from curiosity of the humankind. They tend to use seemingly scientific jargon to rationalize concepts but are often scarcely refutable and are devoid of experimentation and evidence. This essay aims to bring out the flaws in pseudoscientific claims through the example of the Bermuda Triangle and demonstrate how and why this concept is not scientific. For many years together, the mysterious disappearance of ships, planes and even two nuclear submarines in and over the region popularly called the Bermuda Triangle (or the Devil’s Triangle) has fiddled with human curiosity and compelled our race to make repeated attempts at unravelling this mystery.…
