Benefits of an internship
Internships can make big impacts in people’s lives. Throughout the past few months I was lucky enough to participate in an internship with athletic training to learn the ropes of how it works. My mentor, Mr. Grande showed all the things I was interested in and was able teach me all the important things I need to know about the job. Internships provide people with great experience, amazing connections, and if you’re lucky money. The benefits of an internship are way more powerful than you can imagine and can make or break your career.

An internship is supposed to be educational and a great learning experience that helps people decide a path and find your career. Now what can make an internship ten times better is when you have a paid internship. You get all the same education with a paycheck that goes along with it. In the article, Paid Internships Benefits Interns and Employers states, “Studies show that, while nearly half of all graduating college students have performed some kind of internship, those fortunate enough to land a paid internship are more likely to gain a full-time job offer or higher starting salary than those who complete an unpaid internship.” This is showing that people who get paid internships are more likely to benefit from an actual job. This is something I also saw first hand. Sadly my internship over the last few months was not a paid internship but my brothers was. My brother in his last year of college was offered a paid internship from a very good accounting firm and from there he was directly offered a job from the company right after the internship ended. Paid internships are very beneficial on the work force and it is something that should be looked into by many

Anyone who is entering into the workplace is required to be enrolled in a training exercise course to develop their skills on a job. The skills needed are taught or learned through experience hence why, having the opportunity to intern is a privilege; yes, everyone will have not the same experience but it will allow the intern to adapt to their new working environment and gain merely through hands on experience (Sweitzer & King, 2013). The intern’s role varies but inveterately their role in any company is to laisse with supervisor and other interns and staffs to fulfill the required task. As a student in the BUSI 440 course I have found myself really enjoying and looking forward to the assignments. During the first weeks of the course, we were assigned to read over two articles explaining why internships matter. While reading such articles I noticed how much I agreed with the information, in “The Positive Implications of Internships on Early Career Outcomes” the author Nathalie Saltikoff brought up the point that students graduating with internship experiences in general are more likely than students without experiences to find employment. This statement made me realize how important internships truly are. If I look back at my past internship and work experiences, I notice that I was able to expand my networking circle and improve my thought process.…

This increase in salary would be largely beneficial to anyone, but does this increase come around to all college graduates? Many schools that you can attend may place you in far more debt than you can handle. Even possibly bringing your actual income after you make your payments on your student loans for that month, less than what a high school graduate would make. J. Selingo has a great example of this in his book, College Unbound. He compares debts accrued by graduates from Princeton University versus graduates from Ohio Northern University.…

In ‘No pay? Many interns say, ‘no problem’‘ article on AOL, Jennifer Halperin writes about the growing debate regarding internships. Particularly the fact that a lot of intern positions are unpaid, which many people agree and disagree with. However, people who actually apply and go to these internships don’t actually have a problem doing their internship for “free”, with strong and solid arguments for unpaid internships such as acquiring experience and getting to see what working in this field really is all about. But, there are also good arguments against unpaid internships, such as people who already live in financial constraints, would really dislike unpaid internships regardless of the benefits they would gain.…

There are several recommendations that I would like for Florida Gulf Coast University Athletic Department to improve their internship program. First of all, I would have liked to have some more training when it comes down to hospitality duties and other responsibilities in keeping the members of the boosters club happy. Also, I would suggest that the agency offers more challenging tasks to allow interns to think more critically to be prepared for real world problem solving situations within the workforce. Lastly, I would advocate that FGCU should allow interns to try different job positions within the athletic department, so students can have a better understanding of what they really want to do as a potential future career.…
