The Hollywood film industry is constantly expanding, creating a competitive atmosphere that continues to grow and change through the years. The entertainment industry especially. The process of launching films is risky due to the number of different film options to choose from. How a film is marketed, determines its success or failure. When trying to position a film, research is a crucial tactic throughout the entire process. In POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Morgan Spurlock takes us, the viewer, through the process and world of product placement. One of the main tactics is to distinguish a target audience. In addition, significant cast, trends, and timing are other elements to think about. Nowadays how the film industry promotes and markets films has slightly changed. One difference is the use of social media, and how this medium in itself can reach millions of viewers across the globe. If I were the media planner of Spurlock’s documentary, the first step I would take involves finding out the intended audience’s preferred medium and relationship with it. Taking into consideration, genre, season, and other competitions, knowing when to start promoting the movie is crucial. Spurlock’s documentary is a combination of brands, therefore the best way to successfully execute the different products would be to create commercials, ads, hashtags, etc. showing the benefits of purchasing these products. Integrating the use of social media, one lifestyle event to generate awareness can involve users hash tagging, sharing, and posting pictures, videos of ways the product benefits them. Creativity is key, therefore the best submissions will be featured on the movie’s main website page, where people can view videos, pictures, and other submissions made.
