Of course, I’ll try to keep it brief though I could likely speak at length about why I want to get a PHD in geography. It’s certainly not a decision I take lightly considering the amount of resources that go into preparing applications and the sacrifices that PHD students make in terms of time and finance.
I think the most important reason I am planning to pursue my doctoral degree may be my passion for geography and learning in general. I feel that learning is central to my identity and I am keen to expand my interests into new knowledge domains at a research university. In short, while many of my friends pursue their education for an end goal, such as a degree or a job, I pursue my education because I value it in itself.
