Three days. That is what my group and I were given to design, prototype, and test a balloon powered vehicle. While the short amount of time allotted for this project proved challenging it also provided a unique learning opportunity which I fully embraced.
When our group had finally all sat down the first thing I did was introduce myself. Our group was able to quickly connect and become comfortable with one another. This comfort level allowed us to easily share ideas and criticisms. Our team spent the full two hours of our workshop trying to get as many ideas out as possible. We went through multiple different designs before finally deciding on a single plan. It is my belief that this stage greatly helped in setting up our later …show more content…
I found myself in a realist role, always trying to bring the group back to reality and bring up issues with other member’s unconventional ideas. I found that this dynamic worked well for our group as some member’s were able to come up with unique ideas that pushed the envelope but we still were able work through all the potential problems that we might encounter. If our group only consisted of realist, our ideas may have lacked some creativity and unique thinking. However, if our group was only consisted of dreamers, there would be nobody to ensure ideas are actually …show more content…
However, there were areas that could have been improved. While our team was able to fall into certain roles it may have been helpful to clearly define what each person’s contributions to the group were going to be from the start. This would have streamlined the prototyping stage and diminished the amount of redundant work that we did. Furthermore, ensuring that we as a group thoroughly understood the rules would have saved our group both; time and energy.
Finally, for next years P0 project I would suggest a paper airplane. Similar to this year there would be two challenges, airtime and distance. Each team would only be allowed to use the one sheet of paper they were given and nothing else. Once the tests started they are not allowed to make any modifications. While this may seem like an easy project the simplicity of the project will encourage groups to create and test many prototypes and also force groups to make important decisions that not all members may agree
