Ozone In The Air Essay

Danger of the ozone in the Air we breathe
Air pollution is a sensitive topic. The air we are breathing could be the leading cause of human illnesses in the United States. The most common illnesses caused by air pollution is Lung Disease also known as Asthma .We know this is the most common illness, but what we don’t know is what or who are causing the ozone to go bad. To quote Amanda Spake, author of the article don’t Breathe The Air. “ The outdoors was once a simple prescription for good health. No longer.” Summer time, we all can’t wait until its here, but then it arrives and the heat arrives with it. During the summer month’s people are most exposed to particles in the air causing bad air making it hard to breathe. “Chemical processes

We would like to just point fingers at the big factories and companies that release harmful chemicals and toxins from their plants, but they aren’t the only ones causing the air we breathe to be toxic. Everyone has used some type of aersol can spray or have driven a car. These two everyday luxuries are more of a nusance to the ozone. The request for CFC’s (Chloroflucarbons) to be phased out was called for after it was discovered that they are part of the cause for the ozone depleting from chemicals and solvents along with refrigerants . In 2000 new goals for getting rid of the CFC’s were put out. “In 1990, as a sense of urgency grew, industrialized nations agreed to cease production by the end of the century. An upcoming meeting will likely move the goal up even further. The chemical industry - at work on CFC substitutes - has speeded up its own phaseout plans.” (Salholz, E., and M. Hager) Although these new actions are being set in place it is still believed that it may not be enough to help prevent the ozone from going bad. After the ozone crisis in Antartica, evidence was produced that human activity just may be a threat to the global system. Some scientist remain optimistic about this, while environmental advocates feel that the problem should be made known and taking care of and not taking so lightly. “Even if all use of CFCs stopped tomorrow, the problem would continue: the ozone layer is

It is plan to see that we are putting something in the air that definitely should not be there. In The Sixth Extinction Kolbert points out that if we continue to pump carbon into the atmosphere the global temperature will increase between three and seven degrees in a few years. I can agree with the fact that we are not paying attention enough to emissions coming from out cars and we are not really trying to carpool. So again, I can see how I may be contributing to the increase in temperature which in turn is melting the polar icecaps at an alarming rate. It is not a coincidence that we are starting to have a lot of floods and tornados.…

The fraction of carbon dioxide that we breathe is growing: It just crossed 400 parts per million, and high-end estimates concluding from current trends suggest it will hit 1,000 ppm by the year 2100. At that concentration, compared to the air we breathe now, human cognitive ability reduces by 21 percent. Other things in the hotter air are even scarier, with small increases in pollution capable of shortening people’s lives by eleven years. By 2090, as many as 2 billion people will be breathing air higher than the WHO “safe” level (WHO 8); one paper last month showed that a pregnant mother’s exposure to ozone raises the child’s risk of autism, which does make you think again about the autism epidemic in West Hollywood.…

Air pollution is a serious issue that affects the entire world. Motor vehicle use, factory output of sulfur-dioxide and carbon monoxide from burning fossil fuels, and the use of pesticides in agriculture which leads to high levels of ammonia, all contribute to the amount of air pollution in the atmosphere (Air pollution, n.d.). Not only are air pollutants depleting our ozone layer, they are also affecting the health of people. As nurses, it is important to be aware of the causes of illnesses in our community. The purpose of this paper is to answer the question, “To what affect does high levels of air pollution caused by traffic, factories, and agriculture have on the population exposed?”…

clear clear The Environment and Asthma Triggers The increase in atmospheric pollution, especially in cities, is largely to blame for the rise in the incidence of asthma. Increases in industrial effluents and heavy concentrations of nitrogen oxides from motor vehicle exhausts help contribute to a declining air quality. Studies have concluded that the ozone produced when sunlight reacts with these oxides are damaging to the ciliated lining of the…

Air Pollution Policy and Controversy Rachel Carson boldly warned the American people in 1962 that if the United States continued its agricultural and industrial practices, songbirds would cease to exist. Losing an important part of the ecological food chain would have repercussions, possibly worse than we could imagine. While literature like Silent Spring helped bring attention to environmental concerns in the mid to late 1900s, several fatal disasters struck a stronger chord. Smog in Pennsylvania and the fire-lit Cuyahoga, for example, illustrated just how dearly the environment needed policy reform.…

The state of California is driven by high productivity, the demand to produce and deliver makes air pollution inevitable. Air pollution is caused by air gasses that emit into the atmosphere, ultimately contaminating the air. The central valley of California is notorious for poor air quality, it has even been referred to as ‘America’s toxic agricultural capital’ (Leslie, 2010). The California Central Valley is greatly focused on agriculture, it is filled with farmers who rely heavily on their crops for income, but is also composed of larger metropolitan areas like Fresno and Bakersfield.…

These fumes also cause deadly diseases such as the ones listed above. The percent of the population that air pollution really affects is the population that consists of young children and young adults because they are more susceptible to the deadly diseases that come along with having dangerous levels of air pollution in the atmosphere but even though they are more susceptible to the deadly diseases that does not mean that there are not older people that have these deadly diseases. In the April of 2014 WHO announced that in 2012 about 3.7 million people died from their exposure to air pollution all of these people were under the age of 60. The reason as to why most of the shall I say victims of these deadly diseases are under 60 is because they are the people that are out and about breathing the outdoor polluted air. But since then that number has decreased because of the efforts and laws that the Environmental Protection Agency also known as the EPA has passed to make the air in the City of Chicago cleaner and healthier for the citizens of Chicago to breathe.…

Climate change endangers all sectors of our society. Human health will be impacted directly and indirectly due to the environmental changes that will occur with climate change. Ozone depletion occurs when manufactured chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons reach the stratosphere; the UV radiation from the sun causes the release of chlorine atoms that react with the ozone. This chemical cycle causes ozone destruction that depletes the ozone layer. Ultimately, the chain reaction will affect the air quality, thus increasing respiratory problems.…

Many scientists have produced data that confirms that humans have impacted the ozone layer negatively and that the health of people in general is failing. Air pollution is no longer limited to synthetic toxins. The Environmental Protection Agency and researchers have found that greenhouse gasses have contributed to air pollution and in turn, weakened the ozone layer. There has been data that supports the environmentalist’s theory. “Global temperatures have risen 0.85 C on average since the Industrial Revolution--a change most scientists blame on human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels.”…
