An allegory is a palpable representation of an idea or theory in a direct, one-to-one connection, without an opacity at this stage. There is a clear understanding of each allegorical element. For example, in “Young Goodman Brown,” Goodman Brown’s wife’s name is Faith. Faith, the character, represents the concept of faith, in a definite relationship. In this illustration , Faith’s character is an allegorical symbol of the story, as anti to a symbolic element of the same story. In others cases, an allegory is a painting or an actual image or painting, having the same impact as the “faith” concept in “Young Goodman Brown” (Hawthorne 1996). An author, painter, may use allegory to illustrate a moral or spiritual truth, or political or historical situation.but it is easy to apply perfect symbol to express perfect meaning and to add a new information in the art work. The success of allegorical work mainly depends on the viewers or audience’s ability to recognize the identities corresponding symbolic meaning of each of the elements within the artwork.
