Ovarian Cancer Research Paper

Introduction: Ovarian cancer is the deadliest of the reproductive cancers, killing two out of every three women diagnosed with it. Cancer is when cells grow and divide quickly and then the area with cancer develops a tumor, if/when the cancer spreads to other surrounding organs, it can ultimately lead to death. Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent killer,” because doctors had not known that there were symptoms, until recently. Although, what little symptoms there are, are also symptoms of less serious conditions.

Body System Most Affected: My specific cancer cell affects the female reproductive system, which includes the ovaries (small oval shaped organs), Fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and vagina. The main function of the ovaries is to release female hormones, regulate the menstrual cycle and pregnancy, and support the development of secondary female characteristics, secondary characteristics are difference in size between genders. This system is most affected and not treated because it has little to no symptoms, and if there are any, they are often - by doctors and women - not recognized, or dismissed as normal things or complaining. A cancer cell could affect all parts of the body. A cancer cell can and will grow and divide with positive and negative growth factors and unfixable DNA damage, where a normal cell would go through apoptosis, or cell suicide. A normal cell with positive growth factors will grow and divide, and with negative growth factors they will not grow and divide, where cancer cells will grow and divide with positive and negative growth factors.
