Osteomyelitis, or inflammation of the bone caused by infecting microorganism, remains one of the most challenging clinical problems among providers. Multi-specialty involvement, including but not limited to the Vascular surgery, Foot and Ankle surgery, and Infectious disease services, reduces mortality from osteomyelitis. Regardless of its etiology or staging, discussion of treatment with antibiotics versus cure with surgical intervention is warranted between the provider and their patient. In the presence of systemic response to osteomyelitis, resection of the affected bone must be performed. Resection of nonessential bones in the foot and ankle, like metatarsals, tarsals, partial calcaneus , and fibula, can be done with satisfactory retention
