Osteocytes: Bone Is A Living Tissue

Decent Essays
Osteocytes: Are cells inside the bone. They also come from osteoblasts. Some of the osteoblasts turn into osteocytes while the new bone is being formed, and the osteocytes then get surrounded by new bone.
Bone: Is a living tissue. They have there own blood vessels and is made of living cell. Which can help them to grow and repair themselves. As well as proteins, minerals, and vitamins which also make up bone.

    1. Explain how cells specialize to form specific tissue and organs. Cells specialize to form specific tissue and organs by stem cells being able to develop into every type of cell in the body and eventually recreate a person’s tissues. With organs, after you gather the cells which can be from the patient’s own organs you have to go towards how they grow and specialise. The cells need to be put in the right environment, and exposed to the forces that they would normally experience in the body.…

In mammals, longitudinal bone growth occurs at the growth plate by endochondral bone formation. The growth plate consists of three principal zones: resting, proliferative, and hypertrophic. The resting zone lies adjacent to the epiphyseal bone and contains infrequently dividing chondrocytes. The proliferative zone contains replicating chondrocytes arranged in columns parallel to the long axis of the bone. The proliferative chondrocytes located farthest from the resting zone stop replicating and enlarge to become hypertrophic chondrocytes (1).…

Bone marrow is the site of hematopoiesis, that is, generation of all blood cells including erythrocytes, lymphocytes and platelets from common pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell. Hematopoietic stem cell generates two types of multipotent progenitor cells, one that generates lymphoid and the other that generates erythrocytes and platelets. At birth, hematopoiesis takes place in bones throughout the skeleton, but as an individual ages, it shifts and becomes restricted to bone marrow of flat bones such as sternum, vertebrae, iliac bones and ribs. In case of injury or extreme production of new blood cells occurs, liver and spleen become the sites of hematopoiesis. Cytokines simulate the proliferation and maturation of precursor cells in the…

With blood smear analysis they were able to see that the mice studied showed the same effects expected to see in thalassemic patients. Red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, red cell distribution had all decreased significantly were as reticulocytes, which are immature red blood cells without a nucleus in thalassemic mice when compared to the wild type. Using dual energy x-ray absorptiometry, they found that in the trabecular sites such as the femoral metaphysis, tibial metaphysis, and the L5-6 vertebrae but not in the cortical sites. Using bone histomorphometry, microscopic changes were then looked at specifically in the tibial metaphysis. They found that there was a narrowing in new formed bones using a calcium chelating agent that fluoresces green.…

Bones are living tissues that changes constantly so that new bone cells can be made to replace the old ones. This is known as the bone remodeling. Osteoporosis is the effect of disturbance in the bone remodeling. Cells such as osteoblasts are responsible in making the new tissues while osteoclasts are responsible to break down the bone tissues. Both of these cells works simultaneously work together in bone remodeling.…

During muscle and bone repair, there will be a natural attempt by the body to heal and repair, this usually presents its self in one of three ways. Regeneration, as the name suggests this is usually in mild cases or injury where very little tissue damage has occurred and the body may naturally be able to regenerate the initial structure. Resolution, this usually occurs following mild inflammation where the body removes dead cells and debris from the affected area, leaving the original non damaged structure intact. And finally repair, this is where the original structures cannot be re-created, naturally your body continues to produce fibroblastic and collagen until repair processes are all complete, this is often referred to as the granulation…

The four layers going from the outer to the innermost bone are periosteum, compact bone, spongy bone and bone marrow. The periosteum has dense connective tissues concealing the bone’s surface. Next, there is the compact bone, which is durable to protect the spongy bone and bone marrow. The spongy bone contains trabeculae, which bone marrow fills up the open spaces in between. The bone marrow’s function is to produce red and white blood cells along with platelets.…

Besides movement the skeleton also provides protection to vital organs such as our brain, our heart, lungs and abdominal organs. Although our skeleton provides us with such protection it is still prone to injury, wear and tear, infections, tumors and other conditions that can damage bone and become life threatening. The human skeleton system is a highly dynamic organ made up of a total of 213 bones in adults . It is formed by a mineralized connective tissue and comprises two mainly cellular types: osteoblast-lineage cells, and osteoclast-lineage cells. The skeletal system exerts fundamental functions in the body, such as supporting and providing mechanical protection to soft tissues; storing several minerals (mainly calcium and phosphate), and releasing them in the blood stream when required; harboring the bone marrow for blood cells production . To date, several ultrasound-based techniques are available, with diagnostic or therapeutic purpose, for the diagnosis and management of various skeletal disorders.…
