Osh B Gosh Case Study

The company that I have conducted this project on is Osh Kosh b’Gosh. The store is located at Tanger Outlet in Gonzales at 2400 Tanger boulevard #151, Gonzales, LA 70737. The construction of the building consists of sheetrock and steel. The ceiling of the building is open, meaning that there are no tiles to separate the air duct and the insulation. This can seem dangerous because insulation is flammable, but the ceiling is higher than most other stores around it that have the tiles separating the air duct. The occupancy is considered to be a mercantile occupancy and the chapters of the life safety code that apply are chapters 36 and 37 which talk about new and existing mercantile occupancies. The Contents Hazard Classification according to Chapter 6 of the 2012 Life Safety Code would be considered as Ordinary Hazard Contents given that the store houses clothing that is not flame resistant and would burn at a moderate rapidity and would produce a considerable amount of smoke (Life Safety Code, 2012). …show more content…
There are two main alarms in the building; one is located on the sales floor and another is located in the stockroom. The store manager said that there was a recent alarm test done and the alarm could be heard from the parking lot outside of the building which means that everyone in the store would be able to make out the sound in the case there was a fire. The sprinkler system covered the entire building, both sales floor and stock room. They also had sprinkler heads protruding from the ceiling in both fitting rooms and also in the section in between both
