Orthodontic Analysis

In this article, we assessed various progressive diagnostic tools in orthodontics. All have their own advantages and limitations. The registration of pre and post-operative 3D photographs has many important applications, which mainly include the 3D evaluation of treatment outcomes in orthognathic surgery or orthodontic treatment. Using digital models all the orthodontic records of the patient can be digital format. Digital model has proven itself to be alternative to plaster models with advantages of electronic storage of data, minimal storage space required, simple and accurate cataloguing and a rapid transmission of records for consultation. Studies of surgical treatment outcome may be facilitated by using a new superimposition methods which enables the operator to superimpose a custom surface mesh of the first CBCT image onto a second CBCT image of the anterior cranial base. In clinics, application of 3D printing can be largely divided into diagnostic or treatment purposes. Because of its usefulness various application of 3D printing can be considered. Use of 3D-printed rapid prototyped models before oral cancer surgery or orthognathic surgery for treatment planning and simulation has been established to assure more precise and safe surgeries.
