The monthly quantity of items in the ration card are 5 lb rice, 10 oz of beans, 3 lb raw sugar, 250 ml oil, 1kg salt, a roll of bread, 6 oz chicken, 11 oz fish, 10 eggs and 8 oz ground meat. However there is national shortage of such products and only the items available in the ration is distributed. The other means of acquisition include unsubsidized markets which are usually very expensive. Subsidized markets do not have much options and unsubsidized farmers markets are expensive too. One of the most common means of acquiring food is through black market which has gaining more popularity. The food identity is changing with new practices in the food system and is associated with a deep sense of shame. Changing food systems, decreased subsided food is leading to innovative ways to acquire food and changing food behaviors. Stealing, not sharing food with family members, stress and anxiety to acquire decent meals, politics of distribution, influence of american industrialized food is transforming the Cuban food
