As stated earlier, the typical dance of Mariachi is called zapateado which originated in Spain. Zapateado is having dancers stomp the heel of their boots on the ground. When zapateado is done on a dance-floor, it usually creates a unique stomping sound that compliments the music that the Mariachi is already creating. The state of Jalisco in Mexico is the capital of where zapateado originated in.
Mariachi is also used in Mexican events “Important celebrations such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals often include live mariachi music” (Salazar, 2008). For example, my uncle who a Mariachi singer is constantly hired for funerals, weddings, baptisms, quinceneras, anniversaries, birthdays, and baby showers. My uncle sang during the funeral of my grandfather called “Querido viejo” which is translated to “Dear Old Man.” Mariachi is also used for birthdays including quinceneras.
