Organized crime is an illegal activity that is purposely undertaken with the motive of acquiring power, influence, and money. It is characterized with the formation of a group of people who organize themselves on hierarchical basis where they engage in both legal and illegal activities. Internationally organized crime is existent in almost every country around the world and continues to expand infiltrating other economies. While most organized groups operate locally, regionally or internationally, the greatest challenge for law enforcement is curbing the growth of organized crime. For example, the prohibition of drugs in the United States led to organized crime in Mexico the most powerful criminal group in history. This saw “Mafia” groups employ the tactics of legitimate investment in businesses and financial institutions to gain enormous wealth and power. The international rules within the financial market ensure tax haven and secrecy, which allows money to circulate through stocks, businesses and other financial entities. This gives organized crime a safe ground through which money can circulate and harness the group’s activities in their endeavours. Mafia groups have been able to take advantage of the evolving technology and new business concepts to flourish in circulating their money through trusted Multinational Corporation in order to generate massive revenue(Messner & Rosenfeld, 2012). Introduction of Swift transfers on a global scale opened up novel ways through which money could trickle into legit accounts through manipulation of financial systems.

As the world economy grows to expound on globalization of products, services and regional integration, organised crime crawls back to integrate its mainstream in the global economy.
