Organizational Studies Program Entry Essay

The Organizational Studies program at the University of Michigan appeals to me because I thrive in individualized and interdisciplinary settings. I’ve been enrolled in individualized honors programs at my middle and high schools and enjoy not having to follow a ‘cookie cutter’ schedule. Jumping ahead in English and Math allowed me the freedom to take AP Psychology, Life Management and Conflict Resolution. I love this opportunity to select courses interesting to me. It’s even better when my college criminology course lines up with my AP Psychology curriculum, and I get the chance to apply it all through the Peer Mediation program in Conflict Resolution. At Michigan, I plan to follow the Human Capital, Management, and Leadership pathway and pursue the OS Honors option.

I look forward to taking courses directly within the Organizational Studies program, by getting my feet wet with “Organization

These exciting internships are up for grabs now; I look forward to discovering more opportunities during my time at

Intern Nation by author Ross Perlin analyzes the current state of internships in astoundingly immensedetail. In specific, Perlin focuses on the variety of internships, including “the good, the bad, and the ugly; the paid and the unpaid; the ostensibly academic and the completely untethered; part-time internships lasting a few weeks and full-time ones last a year” (XVI). These elements are described through first-hand accounts; for example, the interns at Disney World and the government interns on Capitol Hills. These elements are also described through in-depth investigation; for example, the 18 percent of interns who work without pay or the evidence of companies and government organizations firing full-time paid staff and replacing them with…

I got the opportunity to do my internship at Houston Methodist West Hospital. I have been working for Methodist for the past 4 years in our registration department and out of those four years, I have had the opportunity to work with 3 different management teams. Although, each of my management teams delivered different methods on how to properly register a patient under 7 min or less, our goal we have always strived for was keeping our patient satisfaction scores at a high. In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…
