Ordinary People
In the book, Ordinary People there are a lot of people who have a relationship with Conrad. A relationship that I have experienced in my own life is the friendship between Conrad and Karen. The two characters met in the hospital after both tried to take their own lives. Throughout their time spent in the hospital, they built a relationship based on their common weakness. Their relationship grew through conversation and encouragement. They had a relationship that was based on personal experiences and that went deeper than most relationships we see in the world today. Although we no longer spent everyday together, we would catch up every chance we got. When we got back on the field, we would make sure to ask how the other one was doing and if our health was completely back to normal. We talked about our progress on the field and if we were accomplishing the goals we had set for ourselves. The “Ordinary People” characters experienced the same thing after they were released from the hospital. Karen and Conrad still remained friends, but their friendship was not the same. They had to adjust to no longer being across the hall from each other where the friendship was easy and almost forced. The two characters had to make time to see each other which was almost impossible with their busy schedules. When they could make time for each other they spent it talking about the progress they both had made since they were released from the hospital. Karen and Conrad encouraged each other and talked about what they were doing to improve their situation.
When a person is going through a difficult time, friends are the only thing that really gets them through it. None of my friends had gone through an injury quite like mine so they just did not understand what I was going through. Although they were there for me it helped having someone that really could relate to me. I would not have started a relationship with Chio if it were not for our situations. Our relationship grew from an acquaintance and teammate to a friendship. During this time, Chio became one of my closest friends because he understood me better than my best
