Looking death in the eyes, through an open casket. Not a inseparable friendship, but a distant one where we learned more about each other everyday. It happened so unexpectedly, and I wish I could go back to spend as much time as possible with her. The dimples dented in her cheeks as she turned away grinned, are forever indebted in my memory. Along with the happy memories of her are accompanied by tear stained pillows, restless nights, and months of pain. Grief is different for each person. To overcome this difficult moment in my life, I used optimism to help me day by day. I began to take everything aspect of life as a key to help me appreciate life in a new way. I had to go out of my way to make myself smile and laugh each day, but it was the most beneficial thing I could have ever done. If she hadn’t looked on the bright side, despite her bleak situation, she would've never had the faith or will to survive.…

Bennis and Thomas describe a crucible as a “point of deep self-reflection” that forces a person to “question who they [are] and what [matters] to them” (Bennis and Thomas, p.99). The authors gave several examples that displayed how different people used their unpleasant or enlightening experiences to become successful. The most important thing to understand is that any opportunity good or bad can be taken as an opportunity to grow or go. Critical Analysis: The authors did not give a formulaic response as to how to overcome or conquer a crucible; they solely gave examples of how successful people have overcome their personal crucibles.…

They’re all part of a larger conversation, but they each stepped back and put in their own point of view on this subject. The main subject they all discuss is seeing.
