Oprah Winfrey's Positive Leadership Roles

Improved Essays
After reading the syllabus for this course, I started to follow Oprah Winfrey through both Facebook and somewhat via Twitter (I’m not very familiar with this site). Oprah has been thought of as one of the most important women in the world. (Time, 2010) Oprah Winfrey carries many positive leadership roles and positively impacts people’s life in several different ways. Oprah has effectively benefited from the use of Facebook and Twitter to give her followers advice, life lessons and leadership advice all around the world. In the following passages, you will be able to take a glance into the findings of my followings from the past few months. Since a young girl, I remember watching Oprah on TV giving things away to her fans on TV. Once I saw …show more content…
She does respond to some of her fans by “re-tweeting” or replying to their “tweets”. In an article on Forbes.com, Blake Morgan says, “If being “liked” in the real world isn’t black and white; it can seem even more complicated on social media. If a leader is not active on social media, they are seen as out of touch–like they don’t embrace the modern world” (Morgan, 2015). In the fresh stages of Oprah’s profession, she seems like she has always had a positive outlook and has been very favored by her peers. Like mentioned above, Oprah has many followers on Facebook as well as Twitter and continues to be one of the most followed persons on social media. In his article, Blake Morgan continues to say, “Leaders are generally charismatic people. C-level execs attract people around them with their confidence, charm and intellect (usually). This individual must be a salesman (the role of the CEO seems to be Chief Salesman). They make others feel good. They see the world in a different light (usually)” (Morgan, 2015). From the past few months of following Oprah on social media, I have witnessed Oprah’s professionalism on these sites. On social media, Oprah seems to stay self-confident, intellectual, a product of her OWN network, all while spreading positivity to her followers. It seems that she stays in touch with the news and world happenings through her Facebook and Twitter accounts. I am not sure if she is the one who actually runs these sites but I am sure that she has much say in to what goes on

The traits that I can develop from Oprah comprise of a confidence person, persistence, and being an exceptional speaker. However, being an extraordinary woman as Oprah I believe that her traits are better than mind because she is a strong woman despite her problems that she has encountered she was able to overcome any obstacle in her life and doing it with confidence. Oprah works at her desired pace where the steward traits work at the pace of company. Therefore, they can only go so far when permitted by the company. On the other hand, Oprah can also incorporate some of these steward traits because with transformational their rules and regulations are flexible whereas the steward traits value and respect their…

In my opinion, the leadership style and behaviors which will be more effective for Coach Shirley is the participative. Getting the basketball team involved in the team concept would improve their understanding of the plays being made. As a participative leader, she should turn to the team for input, ideas and observations instead of making all of the decisions by herself. Participative leadership involves the entire basketball team. This leadership style enables the leader to work hand in hand with team members, which focus on building relationships and rapport.…

“Retweet” is a common expression now used by teenagers when they approve of what someone else has to say. With this simple word we can see just how much social media influences our lives. Journalist and staff writer for The New Yorker, Malcolm Gladwell, in his article, SMALL CHANGE: Why the Revolution Won’t Be Tweeted, discusses how social media will never replace the effectiveness of high risk activism. Gladwell’s purpose is to convince people that social media isn’t as promising to change the status quo as many believe it is. As society transitions into the 21st century, the question of women’s roles and leadership is a dynamic and changing idea. This is true in religious institutions as well. The two female religious leaders I will be focusing on both challenge notions of gender roles, as well as sexuality and racial identity within their respective religions. Along the way, these women have faced heavy opposition from the outside world, as well as from members of their own faiths. Presbyterian minister Katie Ricks and Dr. Emilie M. Townes are groundbreaking pioneers for women of faith and force society to question how the interplay of sex, sexuality and race affect religion and religious leadership today.…

As an ethical leader, Michelle has continued to “move others to do the right things, in the right ways and for the right reasons” (Northouse, Pg. 274). As an example, during the promotion of her programs, celebrities like Beyoncé, LeBron James, and Taylor Swift promoted the First Lady initiatives through social media and music video. As the campaign reached millions of new followers, Michelle’s ability to collaborate with celebrities and athletes is evident that she has the power to make change through others. Furthermore, the definition of a great leader is someone who works to create and improve the world. As I conclude, becoming a leader that has helped secure fifty million kids healthier school lunches, and has educated over 375,000 adolescent children in Africa.…
