First and foremost, it was important for me to realize that because Oprah was a double minority, a black woman, she had it more difficult than others. This made me feel a deeper connection to her considering I am also a black woman who faces similar struggles of being looked down upon, especially because of my race. I was one of the few black students that attended my middle school and it always made me feel awkward and self-conscious about who I was, inside and out. To be in television, where white men traditionally dominate, she showed me that no matter who I am around, I can still be who I am while also being the most successful. …show more content…
Not only did that setback fire up something inside of her, but it helped her get her own talk show. This taught me that even when others do not believe in me, I should continue to believe in myself because I am the only one that can control my success. If I were to meet her, I would want to ask her how she stayed determined when all odds were against her. Listening to her story has helped me to keep pushing forward even when I felt like I was not good
