During the Birmingham Campaign in 1963, people marched against oppression even through obstacles of police dogs and being sprayed with fire hoses. In current times, African Americans like Trayvon Martin and Stephen Lawrence endured police brutality as they were killed even though they were unarmed. These are just two of many cases that have happened worldwide. Like those from the Birmingham Campaign who were working towards equality, individuals support movements like “Black Lives Matter” today. From this, I think the protesting that is done should not resort to physical violence coming from the oppressed. Martin Luther King Jr. himself stated, “We must not allow our creative protests to degenerate into physical violence” (302). Martin Luther King Jr. makes the point, “Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children” (302). Basically, King is saying that everyone deserves equal rights. Feminism is still an important aspect of society, but as time goes on, more people look at it as being unnecessary. In countries in the Middle East, women are still subject to sexism when it comes to their own free will; it all depends on their male guardians. In the same context of sexism, Donald Trump himself tweeted, “26,000 unreported sexual [assaults] in the military-only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?” Statements like this show how sexism is frequently portrayed as Trump makes it seem like sexual assault is bound to happen because men cannot control their
