Cyberspace is a word that began in science fiction literature in the 80s and was quickly adopted by computer professionals and become a household term by the 90s. The phrase “cyberspace” was defining the many new concepts that were developing. The phrase is used to characterize anything associated with the Internet and the internet perception. Amongst people there is believed to be an undisclosed code of shared rule and ethics for all to follow on cyberspace. Along with the increase of technology over time there have been many issues that have come along with the growth of cyberspace. Cyber dating has completely taken the fun and excitement out of dating for a lot of people. Not only do people hide behind computer screens and judge and rate people they can hide behind the screen and basically make up the person they want to be. There are so many issues with cyber dating and over the years it has become more and more popular. People who are single and aren’t on one of the many online dating cites are now considered to be the minority. Another problem with online dating is that some people end up getting cat fished, (lure (someone) into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona. This basically means that people created false identities online to gain attention from other people and make other people fall in love with someone who is not real. People get so wrapped up in this world on online dating that a lot of them get taken advantage of. These people fall in love with people that they have never met or they give out information to these people who they have no idea who they are. Online dating is a dangerous phenomenon that has increased sexual crimes and murder rates. Cyber dating gives people the opportunity to be whoever they decide that they want to be, they can mis-represent themselves when it comes to gender, age, nationality, background, photos, and more. When a person is dating online they never really know who the other person is that they are engaging conversation with. The online dating world has become so popular over the years because it helps the timid people feel more confident. As stated in this article, "Because it lacks the immediate threat of physical rejection, people who are perhaps shy or had painful romantic failures in the past can use the Internet as a way to build a relationship in the early romantic stages"(Leonard 3). Cyber dating is not good because people hide behind they really are and alter
