World War 1 was caused by a deep seated mistrust of countries throughout the world. This war was very unavoidable as the issues that were solved by the war were not solvable by simple compromise. Two of the main causes of war was Nationalism and Imperialism.

Although nationalism can be a unifying force in a country it can also be the cause intense competition among nations. Nationalism is one of the main causes of World War 1. Nationalism is defined as a sentiment based on common cultural characteristics that binds a population and often produces a policy of national independence or separatism. Nationalism created many rivalries in the world and gave people false courage to go to war
