The student organization I chose to write my reflection about is the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. This fraternity is a part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and is the Omega Epsilon Chapter at the University of Toledo. Their colors are royal purple and old gold and their national founding date is November 17, 1911. The fraternity also goes by other names like the (Ques or Da Bruhz). Some of the requirements are to have at least 30 credit hours and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. There were three founders Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman who were also undergraduates at Howard University. This fraternity has four main principles manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift. The Omega Epsilon chapter of the fraternity was established on September 9th and 10th, 1970 with the Delta Epsilon chapter of Bowling Green State University making them the only twin chapters in the fraternity. This fraternity also has study tables in the library on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 2. Omega Psi Phi also does not look for new members good quality men will seek them. This fraternity also does not participate in Rush every semester but they do have interest meetings and information sessions for those who are serious about joining. The Omega Psi Phi also has a sister sorority called …show more content…

Looking back now, there really is no better advice to give someone. The rush process has been perfected over decades of use; everyone ends up in the house they are meant to be in. Formal rush is an effective and quick way for members to have contact with all the potential new members, and streamlines how sororities recruit new pledge classes. As the viewpoints of the members evolve and change, the new pledge classes represent that. The process doesn’t work when it isn’t followed correctly, such as when alumnae step in and make decisions meant for the current members.…

Greeks all speak a language or a lexis that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority. We sometimes say things that only other Greeks will understand. In addition to the lexis that is shared, they also have different levels of seniority and the Phi, and epsilon) sigma being the beginner and epsilon being the highest seniority. I think this group values the sisterhood/ brother hood bonds that they get out of it. We as greeks love the feeling of meeting new people and being able to connect with them as close as they would with a sibling.…

Breaking Stereotypes One Step At a Time Greek life contributes a lot to the average college community. Whether it being, giving student’s connections, philanthropy, or providing a fun atmosphere for several stressed college students. The affect it has on the students individually is huge too. Fraternity’s and sorority’s push each member to reach outside their comfort zone, and to strive for excellence in academics, community involvement, and personal development. “Greeks all speak a “language” that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority.…

Not only do I possess the qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and service, but through N.H.S., I am certain that I will grow tremendously in each of these areas.
