Oil Change

An oil change is one of the most important ways to keep your car in the best possible running condition. We will be going over, in depth, about the oil change procedure.

Before you begin you need to acquire the right tools for the job. You will need a high quality product selected oil filter, a funnel, an oil pan or bucket, newspapers, rags, and oil cleaners. The new filter is for replacing the old one, the funnel to properly put the oil in the oil tank, the oil pan or bucket to catch the releasing oil, newspapers to cover the ground below you, the rag and oil cleaner is to clean oil out from wherever it got to in the underbody.

Pull the car on the 2 or 4 post lift with driver window down so the driver can hear the spotter. (Make sure to center it properly) Remember, leave window open with the keys in the ignition so the keys don’t get locked in the car or get lost, also, so you can check the suspension. Pull the hood release and exit the vehicle.

Walk around vehicle for an overall inspection. (Lights) Check brake ,front, rear, turn signals, and plate lights. Note any lights that are not working.

Check fluid levels, this includes making sure the coolant, power steering, and brake fluids are in the proper level. Next, you check the drive belts, look for uneven wear, fraying, and cracking. Look for more than 6 cracks per square inch. After you check the drive belts, now it’s time to check the battery. When checking the battery you must look for any leaks, corroded connections, worn and electrolyte levels on fillable batteries. When that is complete, you check for coolant leaks. Look near coolant connections including the water pump, radiator, and coolant hoses for wear. Next, check for oil leaks, look near covers such as valve covers, front covers, and crankshaft seal. Last, you check engine mounts, which includes looking for worn rubber mounts and excessive engine
