Odysseus’s Courageous Journey

There once was a man as strong as an Ox. His name was Odysseus and he was more than just a soldier or a tough guy. He was also a husband and soon to be a father. His Wife's name was Penelope. In the epic poem, The Odyssey by Homer, the main character in this poem is Odysseus. Odysseus was the king of Ithaca and he was an incredible person, everyone in the town loved him as if he was in their family. In the beginning Odysseus and his wife Penelope have a child, but Odysseus’s time is cut short with the child since he had to go to fight in the Trojan War. During the story Odysseus won the Trojan war heroically by trickery. He escapes and hurts a cyclops and survived a horrendous storm. Odysseus is Intelligent and

For example When Odysseus and his men are trapped in a cave with a creepy and ginormous Cyclops. Odysseus thought up a brilliant idea to escape the dangerous situation. The cyclops asks Odysseus his name, Odysseus tells him in book nine text info (270-274) “you ask my honorable name ?” “my name is nohbdy: Mother, Father, and friends, everyone calls me nohbdy.” This confuses the cyclops but he believes Odysseus. Then Odysseus stabs him in the eye and the cyclops yells “nohbdy’s ruined me” so the gods do not know that Odysseus did it. This shows that he is very smart and can use his brain and trickery to get out of sticky situations. He has experience and got away from any further harm. In addition, Odysseus is also intelligent such as, when the storm hits he doesn't panic and keeps himself and his crew calm. In book 12 text evidence (154-157) Odysseus says “Shipmates, grieving and weary though you are, listen: I had forewarning from Tiresias and Circe, too; both told me I should shun this island of the Sun, the world’s delight.” This shows that he knows not to get worked up about all of the chaos going on and keeps his men calm so nothing else goes wrong. This also shows that he knows that if he and his men stay calm it will keep them from making wrong decisions. Odysseus stabs the beast straight in its incredibly large eye, causing it to go insane and try to kill his crew. In book 9 text evidence (296-298) Odysseus and his men stab him “So with our brand we bored that great eye socket while blood ran out around the red hot bar.” This shows that Odysseus is brave enough to stand up to a creature more than 10 times bigger than him and to put his life at risk. This also shows that Odysseus has the confidence in his men to be brave and put their lives in danger as well. In addition, Odysseus shows incredible bravery when he fights all of the suitors with his son Telemachus. Odysseus and his son are hugely outnumbered by the suitors and somehow kill them all. In book 22 text evidence (112-115) Odysseus says to his son “Run then, while I hold them off with arrows as long as the arrows last. When all are gone if I’m alone they can dislodge me.” This shows that he will fight for Ithaca no matter what and stand up for his family.
