Obtaining informed consent is an ethical obligation of the practice of medicine. It requires deliberate discussion between physician and patient in which sufficient information is given to allow the patient reach an informed decision regarding the medical treatment offered
When the patient is not mentally capable, the discussion must be with the substitute decision maker
The information disclosed to the patient includes:
1. The nature of the procedure: in simple terms; what will
