He was always struggling in school and constantly failing each subject because of his low self-esteem. Ben had the mindset that he was dumb, which resulted in him not trying in school and acting like he was dumb. Additionally, he was known for being the ‘dummy’ in his class, as well as the only African American, giving his fellow classmates even more reason to bully him. Ben’s mother was deeply troubled by this and did not want her three sons to turn out as she had, so she limited her sons’ TV privileges, making them read and write a report on a library book whenever they could, but at least 2 times a week. Ben, of course, did not fancy the new modification of his free time, though he had no choice but to comply. He soon became accustomed to it and even began to enjoy reading, as there wasn’t much else to do around his neighborhood. After these changes were made, Ben began to do much better in school, and soon considered himself as smart, which resulted in him acting smart and trying his hardest in school. He went all the way from the bottom of the class to the very top. As he grew, Ben overcame his struggles and began to confide in himself, and became a completely new person
