Observation Of Virtue At Windmoor

Decent Essays
On Saturday February 27, 2016 at Windmoor I talked with a male patient that was schizoaffective. The patient stated he was the twin brother of Jesus. He was explaining to me how the world was going to end and all the evil people will suffer. The patient stated that the government was after him, because he was going to take them all out, because they are all evil, and was not a representation of Christ. The patient mainly talked about Christianity. He didn’t want to talk about anything else, he basically wanted me to listen about how the world is going to end and trying to reach out to everyone before it’s too late.
At the time when the patient was talking I was thinking why he would think he is the twin of Jesus. I was a little nervous when

Dr. Ratner’s speech was extremely impactful. The story about his daughter really touched home for me. I was in a similar situation with my uncle who was diagnosed and died of AML Leukemia a few years, so I feel like I understood some aspects of his experience with his daughter quite well. I think healthcare or future healthcare provider learn a lot from experiencing a situation similar to what their patients will be. It helps put the healthcare provider in the patient’s shoes.…

n chapter 3 of Jesus Behaving Badly, Mark Strauss addresses the issue of Jesus being someone who cures diseases and someone who is angry or loving. Reading this chapter I feel that Jesus is the loving type because he doesn’t reject anyone from knowing him. He wants people to know him and can share the gospel to other people so that when judgement day comes they will go to heaven rather than hell. One verse that stood out to me was Mark 1:33-34, “The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.…

Subsequently after reading Divided Minds, one can be positively sure that schizophrenia is not only a day-to-day battle for its vulnerable victims, but also for the loved ones and their families. This memoir is written by a pair of identical twins, one with an incorrigible mental illness who is also an award-winning poet and the other a doctor of psychiatry. Although the sisters alternate in the telling, it is clearly Pamela's story that captivates you. As identical twins, Carolyn and Pamela were raised in a nearly identical environment.…

Introduction Schizophrenia comes from Greek origin and means, "split mind" (Coconcea, 2004). This is not to be confused that schizophrenia refers to a split-personality disorder. People with schizophrenia don’t have separate personalities. These are two extremely different disorders, yet many people have made this mistake in the Western culture. Another common assumption many people tend to make is that schizophrenics are violent and dangerous.…

“The word ‘schizophrenia’ is derived from the New Latin terms for ‘split mind’” (Kahn 1) and is characterized by “distortions of perception, speech and thoughts” (Kahn 1). Because of a hard childhood filled with bullies and lack of understanding, Deborah created an alternate universe in her head, called Yr, that she would go to when she was scared or lonely. This world evolved as she created gods and invented a complex language that only she and the gods could speak, called Yri. Psychologists believe that patients suffering with thought disorders, such as schizophrenia, “make up their own words that mean nothing to others” (Khan 2).…

Reflection on my class devotion: Regarding the reflections from colleagues, on “Becca and Carmanie’s”, devotion, it is very encouraging to hear good comments, though seriously, I believe I did not do a good job with it. While Becca and were deciding which scripture text to choose for the class devotion, it was very challenging for us to choose a text that made connection to my story and the hospital visit as a group. I literally told Becca that “we should make a theological intersection and not a tangent !” We prayed and asked God to guide us, to help us see and build the connection.…

In this essay I aim to justify how Alasdair MacIntyre is not a relativist. To do this I will start by describing his ethical theory, which includes his account of virtue ethics, derived from his criticism of modern ethical thought. I will then explain how he is regarded by some people as a relativist due to his stress on tradition for rationality and finish by demonstrating how he is not a relativist because of the justification that some traditions are better than others. MacIntyre deeply criticises modern ethical thought and provides an account of what he thinks has gone wrong.…
