Divisive Communication Observation

Oftentimes, abstaining ourselves from lying to others, from abusively speaking to others, and using divisive speech can be difficult. Sometimes when a person is placed in a difficult situation they might react to the situation without thinking about what might come out of their mouth. I decided to do my observations for this paper on a Thursday. The time that I decided for this paper was from 5 P.M until 8 P.M. I choose this time frame because this is the time where I interact with more than one social domain. During this time frame I was at work for an hour and afterwards I went out to dinner with my best friends. At around 5 P.M I started observing my interactions at work. Typically my days at work are pretty busy. I am a cashier/ assistant manager and sometimes dealing with customers can be hard. This Thursday was a pretty slow day except for the hour I choose, since we close at 6 P.M almost everyday the last hour is pretty busy for us. While I was working some of the customers I interacted with were super friendly, which made me feel good, but others were very rude. I am used to greeting my customers with “ hello, how are you today?” some of them are kind to respond and others are rude and would not answer, which make things kind of awkward. After completing this assignment I realized that “right speech” is a universal ethical, moral and religious disciple because in order for a person to be at ease with the world and themselves that person must know how to control their thoughts and their speech. I believe that this is a religious disciple because being able to abstain from lying, from divisive speech, from abusive speech and from idle chatter makes can help a person purify their souls and this will eventually help them achieve
