Observation Of Literacy

I enjoyed reading your post. I liked how you mentioned that you would change the literacy center so that there was a rug, bean bags, and other things for them to sit on and read instead of using the table. One preschool classroom that I was in had it set up how you would change it along with a child sized couch. This made it more inviting for the students and most of the time, the students were always there reading. According to Kaplanco.com (2015), “children who struggle with reading will often refuse to read in places they don’t feel comfortable”. They also suggest to add stuffed animals, bean bags, and pillows (“How to Set,” 2015).
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas in your post.

Currently, I am taking Advance Literacy Practices and the student I am tutoring a hates reading and writing. Our lesson plans reflect reading and writing, so I need to create meaningful and engaging lessons. Interactive writing, such as roll-a-story and sharing the pencil has worked well for this student in particular. However, I know that all students are not the same, meaning that some lessons may not work for every student or class. As an educator, I know that lesson plans I create are going to be continually evolving, by reflecting on lessons it allows you to determine what needs changing.…

The Struggles I Faced on my Journey to Literacy At a young age my journey to literacy began. I loved books and story time, especially when my mom would read my favorite bedtime stories like “Green Eggs and Ham” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” I always loved for people to read me stories, but hated to read to others. It was hard for me to pronounce words and it was more difficult for me to understand the words I was reading. All that changed after the bad experiences I faced and the help I received from the different people in my life.…

To tell the story of my life and how literacy has a personal connection with me, wed have to start when i first started reading and writing. When i began learning to read and write i loved it, i loved being able to read different things and finally understanding what different things meant. The majority of my time spent in elementary school was reading books or reading magazines, I enjoyed reading so much. The writing literacy objective for Brockton High School requires the students to argue a thesis and support one’s thinking. We did this by choosing whether or not The Ugly Duckling was appropriate for children to read. For this writing assignment we were required to provide evidence and explain our reasoning. Writing this essay was one of my favorites, because it allowed me to think more about my personal views and morals as an individual. I enjoy debating with people and hearing their personal opinions, so this writing objective wasn’t hard for me.…

My literacy journey has been one that I am grateful for thus far. Throughout the years, my family and my teachers have been at the core of my literacy. The various teachers and professors who have taught me have really played a big role in ensuring that I have become as literate as they could possibly prepare me. My parents and siblings have always been a big part of this journey, especially in reading. They have supported me by encouraging me to read as many books as possible.…

Literacy has always been an important part of my life, but in my early years, reading and writing was a tremendous challenge for me. When I reflect back on my childhood, I’m reminded of a variety of things, moments like going camping or riding a bicycle. But most importantly, being the oldest one and having to set an example for my sisters. It’s what I had to do since I was the oldest. If I didn’t advise my sisters on the right path since the beginning, then they wouldn't be as far up the trail of education as they are today.…

When I reflect on my literacy experience, I inevitably think of two things: my old high school library and Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. My earliest memory of literacy is sitting around my daycare provider during story time, while she read us books. After story time we would be allowed to get our own books from the library. Although I could not read at the time, I still enjoyed looking at the pictures and making up my own story to go with it. When it came time to learn how to read, I was sort of impatient. I can remember having problems with phonics because I did not want to take my time to sound out words; I wanted to just be able to recognize the word immediately.…

Literacy has plenty of different types interpretations. Like most individuals, when I think of literacy I think of reading but most importantly understanding what you are reading. When babies are brought into this world, they are like sponges waiting to soak up new information about their unfamiliar surroundings. Deborah Brandt states “Sponsors, as I have come to think of them, are any agents, local or distant, concrete or abstract , who enable, support, teach, model, as well as recruit, regulate, suppress, or withheld literacy—-and gain advantage by it in some way.” Older individuals use their knowledge as literacy sponsors to pass down what they have learned to the next generation.…
