It gives farmers incentives to favor growing one type of crop over another rather than the crop that fits their land or needs.Crops that are forced into everyday things like corns and peanuts have the most subsidies. According to alison winters from The Hill magazine this contributes to a two tiered society in which the people that are wealthy and know more people benefit at the expense of everyone else. This is bad because it restricts competitors who are not as wealthy so they don't have a lot of connections and this can make the people that are well connected very hard to challenge.The second tier is that it drives up the cost of food to the point where a average american has to hesitate to buy the food.For example the Sugar program in the U.S it makes sugar unaffordable and controls supply with import quotas. The USDA is enforced to buy the excess sugar and sell it to biofuel industry with taxpayer discounted dollars.This makes the price of sugar double and hard for an average american to obtain.
