Oakwood Parable Essay
My father is my teacher, and a good one. A good teacher of what not to do. Most fathers teach their sons how to be a man, how to provide for his family, and how to do the little things such as hunting, fishing, and fixing things etc., but my father never taught me these things. He was too busy chasing women and doing drugs.
My father has been in and out of prison and treatment my whole life. The two most recent times was when he went back to prison my freshman and sophomore years. I remember sitting in shop class freshman year and my mom texting me the news, and I was not shocked, he had just got out of treatment that summer. He had a way of getting out and then going right back in.
I was furious with him, I thought

He won’t be out until my junior year of college. I have never had a father when it came to sports. He’s never seen me play varsity football or wrestle in high school, but even though my father never was present to teach me all of the life lessons, and how to be a man, and how to provide for my family, he still did.
I wouldn’t have such a positive attitude and outlook about my situation if it wasn’t for my mom and uncle. My mom went through it all with me, and it brought us closer. She has taught me that it is way too much work to hate, and it is not worth my time. My uncle has been there for us financially. When my mom and I struggle he is always there for us, helping me pay for camps and gear for sports. He is also my father figure. He is the one I look to when it comes to “men things”. I could not be more thankful for these two in my life. Without them, I would not be where I am today.
I have taken every step towards succeeding in high school just to prove that the apple does fall far from the tree. I am nothing like my father. I am graduating high school, and going to get a college degree, and starting a family to be the best father I can

The list could go on and on about what is wrong with high school sports in this generation. It starts when they’re young, parent coaches who only qualify because they played the specific sport when they were younger. That is brought into high school, with their child playing the same sport they “coach”, not getting to experience anything other than what their parent’s knowledge and what they could tell them. I’m not saying all high school athletes who are coached by their parents aren’t going to get any better, but I am saying that if you are going to hire a coach for a program, make sure they are more qualified than just being a parent in the district or having a little playing experience. High school is the preparation stage for college, both academically and athletically.…

There Once Was a Time There once was a time in my life in which everything was put into perspective. My mother had been taken to the hospital multiple times whether it’d be for cramps or for stomach sicknesses. She is the most hardworking person I know in my life. She grew up without anything. Her dad had left the family for another when she just turned thirteen, she already had a job at age twelve, and she took two buses to get to school every day.…

Not only did she help us get into college, but she also fostered important values that she lived by. For her, it was crucial that we lived humbly, as resources were readily available to mold our potential. She is proud of the family that she created and established, despite the absence of a father figure for a chunk of time.…

From the beginning of time, God has always had a plan for our lives. He knew who we would be and what we would eventually become. He knew that as time went on, we would need extraordinary people in our lives to look up to, and to learn from. This is why when we first were born onto the Earth, God placed us with a family who would love us and whose only desire is to help us become something more than what they could ever become. With this being said, family is not restricted to the men and women you were born to, but family is also the people who influence you the most, the people who love you, and the people who desire great things for you.…

She had created somewhat of an unbreakable bond within that side of the family, and with in such a short amount of time it began to change. I believe my mother tried to form coalitions, with my fathers side of the family, however this placed her in what appeared to be a conflict triangle with a few of the family members (Hocker and Wilmot pg. 229, 2104). Theses conflict triangles were formed not primarily because of my mother but rather because of my aunt and cousins would offer hope and aspiration that everything would change and not to give up on my father. With the extent of the insecurities, which my father had left my mom, and the encouragement and optimism that my family gave to her it was burdensome to move on.…

If my mom and dad would have never split up, my mom never would have met my step dad, who showed me that a man could love and care for a child as his own even if they aren’t blood. He spent time with me, bought me nice clothes and toys, and basically spoiled me my entire childhood. He always believed in me, and pushed me beyond my limits, because he saw potential in me. I do not think any less of him because he isn 't my real dad. Another reason I 'm thankful for the way I was raised, is that the home I spent most of my time at led me to believe that everything in life is easy and everyone can have nice possessions and go on fancy vacations, but I learned that was not the case.…
