Nutrition Intervention Paper

The program will focus on nutrition and a physical activity intervention. The nutrition intervention will be made up of two components, the first is the education section and the second is providing safe and healthy lunches and snacks for children. The education component of the intervention will be held in classrooms and will be facilitated by trained teachers. Children will participate in a bi-weekly interactive classroom activity for the entire school year. This is meant to develop their understanding about the nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables. At the beginning of every session the teacher will spend some time to ask each child about their favorite fruits and vegetables for the week and the kind of food they had for dinner the day before. This information will give the program a good idea about the children’s preferences and what they are fed by their parents when they are out of school. Sometimes teachers or instructors will display pictures of fruits and vegetables with their names in large print and explain the nutritional value of each. The goal is to make the children familiar on what different fruits and vegetables look like. In order to keep the children interested, half way through the session children will be served some slices of fruits and vegetables to taste based on what is in season. The second component of the nutrition intervention will be implemented five days a week, when school is in session. For this intervention, our certified nutritionist will meet with the head cook on a weekly basis to come up
