Nutella-Personal Narrative

Decent Essays
Rain slammed against the windshield, and the dark roads became darker, rural streets coated in frozen sleet. I softly swore under my breath, neck craned at an extreme angle to peer out of the inch of clear window I could actually see out of.
It had been raining for days, and my distaste for driving in it had lead me to stay holed up in a hotel with Netflix and room service for the past week. My twin had been texting me nonstop for hours, both begging me to return home and telling me not to dare show my face unless I came bearing Nutella. She was such a child sometimes.

At 5:30 AM, the young, naive, Jenny Drpich is all dressed up finally ready to leave her home and head to her job for the first time. On her way, she grabbed a copy of West Australian newspaper, a leftover of cinnamon bun from last night and a freshly brewed cup of Long Black Arabica. The placidness of her home is unwieldy; the constant sound of the dead air seems remind her of pure elation of her little farmhouse in upper Swan Valley. These reminiscing values seem to ponder in her mind as she heads out of the driveway. It was a heinous drive from her house to the suburb.…

“We had been in Arkansas training our cadaver dogs” (Fletcher), she had stated. Soon later, Fletcher and her friend got the call that would change her life indefinitely. Umpteen thoughts were running through her mind as she raced home, “[I was] worried about where I needed to go first, and as a paramedic, who did I help first” (Fletcher).…

Bicycles rode by making that special titter and thrill of gears.” She finds out that is going to rain and that she might go to the country with her boyfriend Ken to spend the weekend. “Well, rain in the country was better than rain in the city; it would mean a different type of weekend: cozy, fires, snacks, catching up on reading.” With that in mind, she was all set, to begin her trip.…

Razor-blade words cut their way up my throat, but her swollen, pink-rimmed eyes, and the deep creases in her forehead stop the words short, and they bleed back down. I won’t say anything. A fight is the last thing we need right now. Pulling my jacket tighter against the crisp November air, my gaze flicks around the stomping ground of my childhood. The small tan houses that frame the asphalt stand in identical lines, each side of the street reflecting the other.…

First of all, I love The Oatmeal. Their articles are not only informative, but also really help to understand things. They also help me to remember things, because humor is a good memory tool for me. I do not often use semicolons in writing because I am afraid to misuse them. I'm hoping that after this chapter my habits will change; semicolons are important for making your writing easier to…

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an individual child with a desire to gain one Snickers bar, must be prepared to trade no less than three Twix bars. In my household, every bag of fun sized confections was an opportunity for a ridiculous negotiation with a not so ridiculous lesson behind it. When my father loves Snickers just as much as I do, why should he take only one inferior Twix for one Snickers? Critically assessing how much my companion stands to lose versus how much I was willing to pay to get what I want is a skill I have been developing since middle school. Negotiation and debate, human interaction of all kinds have always piqued my interests both academically and recreationally.…

I for one am a fan of trying different kinds of food. But having the option of different food from around the world is something that I admire when I walk into a restaurant. When I first saw the deli I thought to myself “there’s not going to be much here besides a bunch of meat and cheese”. However all of that changed when I walked in the front door, as soon as I opened the door I was overwhelmed by the smell of Lasagna, Sausages, tomato sauce, Meatballs, and so much more.…

It had completely stopped raining by morning and the sun was giving off a warm, hazy effect as I headed out for school. The ground was still pretty soggy even though the moisture was evaporating fast, and there were plenty of puddles along on the sides of the roadway that spewed out stretching across the street making the landscape look like it’d been dappled with small lakes. As I walked, I did my best to avoid getting wet from these puddles even trying to tiptoe my way through the ones I couldn't find a way around. Several strays had joined me in my journey once I’d made it to the vacant field not far from my house where they had liked to congregate. One of them happened to be Midnight.…
