In class we have been learning about the interpersonal process, culture, interpersonal communication, and the self. In class we have also learned about self-concepts, and how we see ourselves, and how others perceive us. In this paper I am at my dream job interview as a nurse in a hospital. I have been given a piece of paper and a pen to write down more things about myself that we make me the right person for the job. In this paper I will be giving myself ten self-concept characteristics, and assessing how they apply to my dream job as a nurse. I will also be explaining how me being supportive, athletic, and friendly tie into culture, reflective appraisal, and social comparison.

Self-concept is said to be “[t]he relatively stable set of perceptions you hold of yourself” (Interplay 100). The self-concept that I have for myself if first that I am a driven person. I believe that I am a driven person because when I set a goal for myself I do not stop until I have achieved my goal. This self-concept can be applied to my dream job as a nurse because I will be driven to achieve my bachelor’s degree in nursing. Next I believe that I am a respectable person. I am respectable because I try to put myself in other’s shoes, and respect their opinions. Respect will play a role in my dream job because as a nurse you have to be respectful of your patient and their needs as well as their family’s needs when they are going through such a hard time. Next I am a hard worker, and I am a hard worker because when I want something I try my hardest to achieve that goal. I always put 100% into my goals. Next I am a friendly person because I genuinely like talking to people, and I like to be treated by others how I treat them. Being friendly in my job as a nurse is going to be very important because it will help my patients have a better experience in the hospital when they are going through a scary time of their life. Out of the ten characteristics that I shared of myself I believe that my self-concept of reflective appraisal would be that I am a supportive person. Throughout my life I have been someone who has been there for a person who needed someone to help them get through a tough situation. I work at Good Samaritan hospital on the heart & vascular floor as a patient care technician. Every day at work it is my job to be supportive to my patients when they are going through a hard time, hearing bad news, or having awful pain. I am the person to get them whatever they need to help them out.
