I tried to look confident and put together as I asked the floor secretary where I could find the nurse I was supposed to be shadowing that day. I just kept telling myself to act like I belonged and not show how nervous I was. I found my nurse and quickly learned that she probably had one too many patients and they were down a CNA.
We quickly rounded on the patients walking and talking as quickly as possible. I watched as she did ten things at once with a smile on here face and this amazing grace and ease. I instantly knew why they had matched me up with her, She was an amazing nurse. Her bed side manner was flawless and even though she had what seemed like and insurmountable amount of work, she never let it show to any of her patients.
I was very overwhelmed at first. This was my first nursing experience of any kind and I was having trouble keeping up with her and keeping everything straight. I quickly found my rhythm though and knew that I needed to make a good impression. I had to make my time there count. So I jumped right in. I figured out where the supply closets were and started changing out the bedding for a patients who's family was upset we hadn't been in yet that morning.
