Showing a wiliness to learn, and taking initiative contribute to an optimal work setting by creating a team of strong leaders. Fostering a learning culture within the workplace empowers employees to seek out knowledge to improve their practice, thus improving employee satisfaction and patient outcomes (Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, 2001). In addition to this, participating in continuing education allows nurses to feel validated in their work, and develop an increased professional identity (Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, 2001). Taking initiative also plays a role in creating a health work environment, as it increases team morale and promotes a positive workplace culture.
Influence on Individual Practice Showing a willingness to learn, and taking initiative will also improve my individual practice. These two skills will help me pursue my goal of being a strong leader within my work environment. By continuing to increase my knowledge throughout my career, I will become a skilled health care practitioner in my practice. Developing my skills, and showing an initiative in the workplace will increase my job satisfaction, and will allow me to be a confident member of the health care team.
