As we have learned throughout this quarter, theory is significant to our practice. The gap can close with a complementary relationship between nursing theory, nursing science, and nursing practice (McEwen & Wills, 2014). White (2011) suggests in order to narrow the gap we need nurse champions who are excellent practitioners and passionate about improving quality of care. They will lead by example and take on the task of bringing and adopting evidence and best practices into the work place. Another important way to assist with the practice gap is to implement the theories into one’s daily practice. Many practitioners use a variety of nursing theories during any given day, in a particular situation, setting, or patient encounter (Petiprin, 2015).
