Data Collection The researchers described that prior to the study, they met with the nurse managers of the Intensive Care Units, who agreed to place letters of invitation in the mailboxes and email the letter to all their nurses to recruit participants. The letter explained the study and the inclusion criteria for participation. Joan Liaschenko and Cynthia Peden -McAlpine, two of the researchers collected the data. The researchers did a very good job in gathering data appropriately by choosing audio-taped unstructured interviews. The interviews were conducted in the participants’ work settings, in a private conference room of their choice, which is typical in a qualitative study. They paid attention to the temporal structure of the narrative, which refers to the chronological sequence of events, and then configures these parts into a whole episode.

Interpretations were discussed as a team to arrive to a mutual agreement about a particular meaning. They hired a professional transcriptionist and used a qualitative data software.
