Nursing Case Study Duncan

Mr. Duncan has been a client of DHR since August 2014. Mr. Duncan's health has worsened over the past few months, and he now requires more care and supervision then before. At this time, no family is willing or able to provide the level of care he requires.

On May 1, 2016 Mr. Duncan aspirated and was placed on a ventilator till June 4. The hospital requested the families when taken off ventilator due to hospital believing he would not be able to breathe independently. However, Mr. Duncan did breathe independently and is out of ICU. He is ready for discharge but no facility is willing to accept him.

Mr. Duncan and the department has discussed long-term placement in the past and Mr. Duncan is willing. However, the hospital caseworkers have
