According to NPAO, a nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse who receives advanced education and training to provide extended care to the public in varies setting. In order to better understanding the NP's roles and responsibilities, I interviewed a Cardiology NP at a local acute care hospital. The questions were prepared and sent to NP one week prior to the interview. In addition, the purpose, goals, and requirements of the interview were explained to the NP. An informed consent (Appendix I) was signed prior to the interview. Instead, she had her work routine and prioritized her work based on needs. She described her routine as 1. Find out which cardiologist she will be working with that day and print out a patient list for whom she will be taking care for; 2. Go through the list, review relevant information, including lab results, vital signs, nursing notes, and etc. 3. Create or review/modify patient care plan; 4. Do clinical rounds (assessments) and patients round with multidiscipline team; 5. Communicate with other team members regarding patients care through documentation or verbal communication. The NP is responsible for initial/follow-up assessment for referrals; monitoring patient’s condition; preparation for the patient who’s going to another facility for treatment and their returns; preparation for patient’s discharge; working with other health care professionals to provide the best possible care for patients; providing outpatient care if necessary. Such descriptions met the NP core competency on clinical roles (CNA, 2008), which requires NP to integrate advanced knowledge and skills to provide cultural sensitive holistic care and health promotion in accordance with the individual condition and
