1. Computer hardware: include computer machines, hard-drive or equipment on which data can be stored and recorded. It also consists a variety of other devices such as servers that help the IS do their tasks efficiently.
2. Operating system platforms: this is what runs the hardware devices, the software is used to act as an interface for the user and manage the incoming date and output. Currently, this sector is dominated by Windows operating systems, and servers by UNIX operating systems or Linux.
3. Enterprise and other software applications: used to interconnect the organisation’s already existing application systems. This would consist SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.
4. Data management and storage: all the data acquired must also be stored and this is taken care by the organisation’s storage devices such as SANs, which connect multiple storage devices on dedicated high-speed networks. Storage devices may include online servers, CDs, tape, flash drive, etc.

Networking and telecommunications platforms: TCP/IP standards is used in mostly all LAN & many wide area networks (WANs) for networking. Platforms are consists of UNIX, Linux, Windows, etc.
6. Internet platforms: may include web hosting services and web software app development tools, web hosting services include: adequate servers, enough space for customers to update their websites. Internet platforms include all of the above components hardware and software.
7. Consulting and system integration services: they are antiquated TCP systems and are created to maintain the already in-use computer systems to avoid redesigning or incurring replacement cost. They are entrusted upon by the firm to implement the relevant changes in business processes, training and software
