1-a. Share the learning outcome(s) you either wrote or revised using the steps outlined in the module.
One of the course objectives I used to use for Music Cultures World was “Students will be able to identify and discuss the differences and similarities among musical performances from a variety of cultural contexts.” After taking the ACUE 1A module, I decided to revise the course outcome as follows:
1) Students will be able to illustrate the connection between music and dance in African music by producing a 5-minute flash mob.
2) Students will be able to demonstrate the application of a number notation system by creating a 5-minute gamelan performance.

1-b. Describe the positive aspects of this process, including how your new or revised learning outcomes will be helpful to you and your students.
Unlike the old version, the

Describe any challenges you encountered.
Although I utilized some action verbs in the older version (identify, discuss) and those two projects mentioned in the newer version were already a part of course activities, I did not realize I could be that specific in the course objectives until I went through the ACUE 1A Unit.

2-b. Explain what may have led to those challenges
Up until now, I thought course objectives had to be all encompassing and refer to big ideas.

2-c. Include an example outcome.
For example, a part of the course objectives for my other course “Introduction to Ethnomusicology” is “Understand key theoretical concepts.” This lacks all four steps recommended in the ACUE 1A Unit:
Step 1: put students in the center
Step 2: use action verb
Step 3: make it specific
Step 4: encourage higher order thinking

3-a. List the next steps you will take to further refine your learning outcomes
In order to apply what I’ve learned from 1A Unit, I will change the objective stated above to “Students will compare and contrast the major theoretical concepts in Ethnomusicology and construct a field work scenario for each of these

Question #1: What would be your response to the order? Explain in detail. My first response towards the operation order is to question the necessity of forcefully removing local evacuee from their homes and destroying their property if they refuse to evacuate. Then explain to the commander that this type of action is prohibited and in clear violation of the Law of War. My second response will be to advice that the operation order be revised before the execution of the order because the destruction of civilian property unnecessary and cannot be justified under military necessity.…

Modification 1 [M]: An elaboration was added to the curriculum and content area to further clarify the direction of the lesson. M2: The link to the previous version 7.5 of the Australian Curriculum ACHCK027 was removed as it was not necessary because it was very much the same content descriptor as ACHASSK118. M3: The objectives were simplified and linked to the sequence of activities in the lesson plan to enable students to achieve the intended learning outcomes (Marsh, Clarke, Pittaway, 2014, p. 152). They were also modified to identify the content, product, and process.…

Let us be a little dreamy and idealistic here…if the whole world would behave like Varldens Band, we’d all live in a much better planet. The gig that we recently enjoyed at Rich Mix, which was also the baptism of Varldens Band U.K. Tour, was indeed a smooth show of cultural integration, collaboration and dialogue between traditions. The 13-member ensemble is indeed one of the best synonyms of multiculturalism and living and playing proof that it can harmonically work.…

    A. Room set-up Criterion 1: “Democratic schools value collaboration and cooperation rather than competition”. (Pugach, 2009, p. 309) Discussion: Mrs. C does not meet this criterion since, although the desks in her classroom are arranged into pairs, some students sit alone. While every other student is sitting down next to a classmate they can interact and collaborate with, there are three students who sit by themselves. One student is not separated completely from the rest, but he does not have a classmate next to him that he can collaborate with.…

Myths and stereotypes surrounding Africa are largely attributed to the lack of knowledge paired with humans innate ability to always be right. During the beginning of colonization, some europeans were initially interested in exploring the ideologies and cultures that Africans conform to. Befuddled by the idea that the majority of African cultures lacked physical textual history, explorers lost interest and some began to spread hearsay about African customs. Hence, methodologies used to study Africa were inaccurate, or incompetent at best. Rather than key in on textual written evidence, Europeans should have studied the importance of music and stories.…

Focusing on the primary level on violence prevention, the goal of my intervention is to help prevent onset of violence within children before they reach they at risk ages where they become more likely to commit a violent crime. I will do this by reducing the exposure to violence children experience, thus, reducing the occurrence rate of violent acts among today’s youth. To go about this, I will begin by reaching out to College Park Academy (CPA), a blended middle-high school, in Prince George’s county Maryland. My sample will be taken from the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), consisting of 35-50 members each year. CPA 's PTO meets on the second Thursday of each month from 6:00-7:00 pm at school.…

3.0 Gifted Learner: 3.1 Who is a gifted learner? When describing young gifted children there is no definition that best describes them. However, gifted children by definition are, “Children who give evidence of high-performance capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, leadership capacity, or specific academic fields, and who require services or activities not ordinarily provided by the school in order to fully develop such capabilities.” 3.2 How does the gifted learner’s behaviour differ from the rest of the class?…

My pedagogy classes thus have provided several different learning experiences. My most recent learning experience was a close reading assignment that was to be completed in field. However, before I completed this assignment in my field placement, I engaged in one myself in my pedagogy classroom. It was at this point that I was able to see first-hand what a close reading actually is. The purpose of a close reading is to allow the student to “develop a deep understanding of what the author is saying and for students to figure out what is confusing and how to gain understanding (Mercado, 2015, ppt 8).”…

When creating my unit plan, I learned that even though school curriculum can sometimes hinder your ability to be an effective teacher I can still create meaningful instruction. Therefore, by using the top-down design I can still plan instruction that is based on the needs of the students. Consequently, it became very evident that top-down teaching relies heavily on the student’s background and experience to obtain knowledge.…

A person cannot fully grasp the full effect and intricateness of music without attending a live concert. On Tuesday, October 27 at the Sharp Concert Hall, I had the opportunity to attend a concert held by D. Frazier and Ricardo Coelho de Souza exhibits musical styles from Africa, South America, and parts of North America. All of the musical pieces contained several African retentions, a variety of instruments and other musical accompaniments such as vocalists and dancers. The concert as a whole, methodically put together, revealed the development of instruments through time and intertwined traditional music with modern styles of music.…

Third, Kail and Cavanaugh (2013) make it clear that in order for a school to be effective, it is important that, “Parents are involved” (p. 237). I think that this is self-explanatory. In order for a child to do well in school, they must have a support system at home that can apply to school situations. At my school, parent organizations such as the PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) were involved in school fundraisers and events. In addition, parent-teacher conferences were held frequently to ensure that teacher-to-student messages were communicated to parents.…
