As a nurse working in health care for the last 17 years, I would classify my nursing skill level as proficient. In reading From Novice to Expert by Patricia Benner, Benner (2001) states, “the proficient nurse learns from experience what typical event to expect in a given situation and how plans need to be modified in response to these events” (p. 28). As I prepared for this discussion board, there are several qualities I feel I am evolving in which are characterized by the expert stage.
