Do you think something good and perfect can last forever? This question refers to the poem by Robert Frost, Nothing Gold Can Stay. which is a poem about how everything beautiful and perfect is precious and can't stay forever. This is a prominent theme to think about as you read this essay.
The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton tells a story about a 14 year old boy trying to understand the harsh world in which he grows up in. The main character, Ponyboy suffers many hardships throughout the course of the story and explores the main theme “nothing gold can stay” as a witness. One example of this comes through with his friendship with Johnny. Despite The fact that Johnny has been hurt and abused many times by his family and the socs, he managed to maintain his heart of gold all the way until his death. Cherry shows the theme when she is talking to ponyboy about how she used to watch sunsets. “I bet you watch sun sets, too” She was quiet for a minute as I noded.” I used to watch them, too, before I got to busy.” In this quote she is saying that she used to have free time she used to be happy, carefree, and gold but now she has no time for the beautiful and gold things in life.
