Nonverbal Communication Observation

The settings for all three of these observations were the same; they took place at Dos Gringos. I found myself at this location, because I was invited by an old high school friend. This was my first official bar attending experience since I have turned twenty-one. The plan was after work to meet up with my friend who was going to already be there with a group of her friends. I know generally a bar is not a conventional setting to write about in a scholarly paper. However, while there I witnessed a lot of verbal and nonverbal communication.
Monica
After arriving at the location I messaged my friend and she came outside to greet me. Having not seen each other for a number of months, it was nice to see her face light up when we came into sight of each other. We exchanged hugs and after a brief conversation, went inside together. Looking around, it became evident that there were numerous bouncers spread out throughout the bar. We made our way through the bar and eventually arrived at

Leron would frequently attempt to shake my hand, in the middle of a conversation. He would occasionally get up and stumble over to Mike and Monica and lean on them while attempting to give a drunken hug. There were even a few times that he walked over to other tables and began conversations with the people sitting there. I found it amusing watching the faces of the people as this tipsy figure approached them and talked to them about random things that they could care less about. Whenever he came back and tried to talk to me, I found little interest in the things he said but at least he was entertaining to watch.
Conclusion
The atmosphere of a bar was an interesting setting for these observations, because there was no shortage of verbal and nonverbal communication taking

Phi Slam has events just like fraternities and sororities do. This event was just one of the many events they put on throughout the year.…

Communication is a key aspect to our survival on this planet. If we didn’t communicate, we wouldn’t be able to do much in any aspects of our lives. We use verbal communication to actually say what we mean, but we also use nonverbal communication. That is like body language, facial expression, gestures and eye contact. When someone is talking to you, you should make sure you are analyzing all of these and also listening to what they are saying.…

The first step of communication presented during Michelle Winner’s interaction with Casey is that we must think about the people we are going to communicate with. This means that we must consider the perspectives of our communicative partners. For example, before talking to Casey Michelle considered that Casey is a high school student who is attending the same conference as her. Secondly, Michelle said that we must establish our physical presence. This means that we must turn our body toward the person with whom we are communicating with and make sure that we are within an appropriate proximity of them.…

The interaction that I observed took place at a car dealership around ten o’clock in the morning on a weekday. I was there waiting for my car to be serviced, along with other individuals in the waiting area. The atmosphere of the environment was like most waiting rooms, people looking down at their phones and watching the television to make the time pass. The ‘Price is Right’ was on a very loud volume setting. This actually made people talk louder than they usual would, making the observation easy to distinguish because the individuals had to either yell or repeat themselves to get their communication across.…

On Sunday night at 8 o’clock, I observed these two girls at the Cup A Joe on Hillsborough Street to determine their nonverbal behaviors. Nonverbal communication is communication without words. More specifically, I am focusing on five nonverbal channels, including body, face, eyes, space, and artifacts to observe the behaviors. While I was observing the girls, it became obvious that they were friends catching up on the latest gossip. Nonetheless, the meeting was casual but relaxed.…

Gender, race, sex, and class are all central determinants in the way interactions play out and in how power and space are valued within those interactions. We subconsciously encounter the influences that these determinants have through each of our daily interactions. Therefore, to further demonstrate the existence of gender, race, sex, and class as determining roles within interactions, I analyzed various interactions among individuals in three different settings: a social space, a place of business, and a site of different purpose. The majority of my findings were further evidence to support the already existing beliefs we have about how we are expected to interact and behave towards other individuals based on these characteristics. To begin,…
