Social media tools need to be applied to their fullest extent so the end results are on the positive side. Their needs to be staff strategically managing the sites at all times to keep up their appearance and get their voices out there. There was a study taken where forty individuals were interviewed to explore the use of social media. Results showed that practicing public relations through social media is very effective especially in the emerging digital age we are coming too. The study used Twitter and Facebook to improve National Headquarters and local chapter relations and ended up coming out with a success. They were able to promote themselves and save on staff and time which was a win win overall. They utilize the use of a community rather than just a large business. An example of this is the Heroes program they have. The American Red Cross has been providing Heroes to our communities for generations. In order for the American Red Cross to meet the communities standards now and in the future they need citizens who are willing to be a “HERO” for the American Red Crisis. An individual is able to do that by raising money for the organization around their area. The donations they get are then used for disaster funds for future events. The HEROES campaign is classic “grassroots” fundraising designed to reach hundreds of small donors rather than just a couple of large ones. The American Red Cross wants the community to feel like as a whole they are helping fund a great organization. The community is sending their support to disaster relief programs together. Most if not all of the American Red Cross campaigns come back to wanting support from everyone instead of just one.
