No Legacy Is So Rich As Honesty Analysis

Honesty is the quality that many people look for in a person. Being honest brings upon positive and virtuous qualities in a person. Honesty in a most literal sense means not lying but it also includes being straightforward, sincere and trustworthy. William Shakespeare said, “No Legacy is so rich as honesty”, this is because honesty leaves lasting impressions on society and other individuals. Straightforwardness will make individuals not beat around the bush and be confident in their opinions. Being sincere may take time, but when people have this quality their opinions and actions will be from the heart, not just to get noticed. Trustworthiness is the best quality one could have; it makes others have faith in them and subsequently gain support from their peers. These qualities are all tied into being honest, although everyone struggles with it. A perfect example is Adam B Wheeler a former Harvard student. Wheeler applied to Harvard with falsified credentials and plagiarized essays. Teachers expected him to be a great writer because of his application, because of this expectation he had to continue plagiarizing to maintain his reputation. This web of lies eventually caught up to him and he now faces dire consequences. Adam now faces a year in prison, ten years of probation and had to pay Harvard more than 50,000 dollars (thecrimson). This goes to show that lies always come back to bite us. If Adam was honest from the beginning, he actually had decent enough grades to join other prestigious schools. Wheelers story shows a trend of what happens when we lie; we then have to make more lies to cover up the original.
